Project Management:

Directed and supervised the scheduling of all routine training services for the U.S. Pacific Fleet. Coordinated the activities of over 80 scheduling officers from organizations throughout the United States. Redesigned all scheduling protocols in use resulting in a 40% reduction in time required to develop the detailed program for accomplishing several hundred individual events each year.

Nuclear Operations:

As the Commanding Officer of a fast attack submarine, supervised the operation of the nuclear propulsion system, the engineering department, and all weapons systems for over four years. Consistently performed at or above critical operating schedules. Was evaluated by senior management as the most effectively managed ship in a squadron of 12 submarines. Achieved similar results as the Executive Officer and Nuclear Engineer on four other submarines.

Engineering:

Directed three Engineering Departments of up to 70 nuclear and non-nuclear trained personnel. Was responsible for the operation, maintenance, quality assurance, radiological controls, and safety of the nuclear propulsion plant and ship's personnel. Ships under command received the highest grade of "Excellent" during three consecutive Operational Reactor Safeguards Examinations. Was awarded a Navy Achievement Medal for accomplishments related to efficient operations.

Plant Maintenance:

Formulated and managed annual departmental maintenance budgets of over $1,700,000 for the machinery division of a ballistic missile submarine. Supervised the planning, scheduling, and implementation of the preventative maintenance program as well as initiated corrective maintenance actions as required. Coordinated the technical maintenance training and performance evaluations for all machinery division personnel. Reduced maintenance costs by over 14% during a two-year period.
