Frequently Asked Questions

USS George Washington (CVN 73) and USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74)

Q: What kind of applicants does DHA represent?

A: Historically, over 90% of our work has been in placing current or former Navy Nukes into key positions in high-tech industries. We are the premier placement firm in the country that specializes in placing Navy Nuclear Trained Officers and Enlisted Personnel.

Q: Is there a fee for the services provided to Navy Nukes by DHA?

A: No. There is no cost to any of our applicants as all of our fees are exclusively employer paid.

Q: What kinds of career opportunities can DHA offer to Navy Nukes?

A: DHA represents companies in both the Nuclear and non-Nuclear fields. Our clients presently include Nuclear Utilities, Independent Power Production Companies, Department of Energy Contractors, Steel Companies, Heavy Manufacturing Companies, Chemical Companies, and Information Technology Companies.

Most of our openings are in Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Training, Quality Assurance, or Customer Technical Support. Some of these select positions are also for Management or First Line Supervisory Positions.

Q: When do I need to have a completed application on file with DHA?

A: Ideally, we would like to have your resume along with our completed Resume Supplement Sheet on file about six months before your EAOS. This helps us schedule group interviews at your Home Port well in advance.

Most importantly, we need your resume about 90 days before your actual availability date to be able to most effectively market you to our client companies.

Q: What are the typical starting salaries offered by your client companies for Navy Nukes?

A: The base starting salaries for most Nuclear Qualified Officers with degrees in either engineering or physics are between $72K and $89K. Senior Navy Nuclear Officers are also considered for Management Positions with a salary range that may be somewhat higher.

The base starting compensation for most Nuclear Qualified Enlisted Personnel is between $46K and $56K. Frequently, these positions also present the option of making an additional $10K to $15K per year in overtime paid at 1.5 times the base hourly rate.

Navy Nuclear Enlisted personnel who have completed Bachelor's Degrees in Engineering Technology are typically also qualified for select salaried positions between $50K and $62K. Enlisted personnel with Bachelor's Degrees in Engineering usually have starting salaries between $65K and $70K.

Q: What are the benefits offered by most of your client companies?

A: All of our client companies offer a standard comprehensive benefit package. These benefits typically include paid medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, as well as paid annual leave and either a pension plan or qualified 401(k) savings plan. Additionally, many of our client companies provide structured training programs for new ex-navy Nuke employees that allow you to increase your base rate of pay over the first one to two years in the same position, as you qualify on an employer’s industry-specific equipment and procedures.

Q: Where will I be marketed if my family or I have specific geographical requirements?

A: You will only be marketed in those areas that you have marked on the Resume Supplement Sheet as being either preferred or alternate geographical areas for relocation. If you are married, it is very important that you discuss with your spouse the regions or states that are acceptable to both of you.

Q: Does DHA conduct group interviews with client companies near Navy Bases?

A: Yes. Over the past several years DHA has scheduled over 20 group interview sessions near Navy Bases with client companies on both coasts. These group interview sessions are typically limited to one or two select client companies with multiple openings. When scheduled, these group interviews are listed under Current Job Listings.

Q: What is needed to register with your services?

A: All that is needed is a completed copy of our Resume Supplement Sheet along with a current copy of your resume.
